REALTOR® Association of Sarasota and Manatee (RASM) 2017 Leadership Academy Project Manasota Sustainability

Sarasota Solar Co-op

How does the co-op purchase work? SUN FL helps groups of neighbors and small business owners form co-ops to get discounts on members’ individual purchase of solar systems for their home or small business. Once the group reaches a critical mass of members (roughly 30 good roofs), it puts out a request for proposals from area installers. The co-op members review all bids with the technical support of Solar United Neighbors and selects one installer. Each participant owns their own system and contracts directly with the installer.

Mission Statement

Sarasota and Manatee County REALTORS® have come together to educate the real estate community and the public on the benefits and importance of sustainability.

Oyster Gardens

With a grant from the Tampa Bay Estuary Program, START has been administering the exciting new Gulf Coast Oyster Reclamation and Renewal Program (GCORR) with supporting partners the Chiles Group of restaurants, Manatee County Parks and Natural Resources Department, the Gulf Coast Shellfish Institute and the University of Florida IFAS Program.

Protecting our Environment

Since the end of World War II, the US population has grown to over $300 million and continues to grow at a rate of 3 million a year, adding a new person every 13 seconds.  This rapid population growth compounded by the development patterns that encourage bigger houses and longer commutes is forcing us to face an important questionHow should our communities grow to provide for Sustainability?
